This was easier to setup than my dashcam!
I really wanted security cameras in my home but was very intimidated by the whole set up and wasn't sure I could do it by myself. I was asked if I would like to try this system and I have to say that I am very happy I agreed to try it. I am a novice when it comes to security cameras for the home so it really needs to be something super easy to do. This Home8 Twist HD Camera starter pack was perfect for someone like me that has never set up a system before. I was so intimidated by such a system that it actually took me a couple of days before I even dared open the box, lol.
Once I was ready to tackle the setup process, I put the whole day aside thinking I would need it. First impressions once the box was opened were of how well packaged everything is! The cameras had their own box with all the accessories you need neatly packaged together. Then each individual items came in its own sealed bag and lastly wrapped in bubble wrap, there is no way this camera system was going to get damaged unless they dropped a truck on it! lol The shuttle came in the same way with its own box and accessories carefully packaged. Now after taking some pictures, I started the dreaded reading of the instructions! Wow, only one folded instructions sheet with 3 steps? What, there must be more to the set up than this? Nope, that is all you need!
The instructions are simple, clearly written and easy to understand. I had this bad boy up and running within a few minutes! I was stoked that home security could be this easy! Now, I can't write all about the technology behind this setup but I can speak from a novice standpoint that if you are intimidated or don't think you can set up your own wireless security system then you haven't tried Home8 yet!
I love that the cameras have 360 degrees of motion and even though I didn't think they would be much help after dark, I was amazed at the clarity of the picture even with the lights out.
The security shuttle is around the size of a soda can and the cameras are even smaller. Most people wouldn't even notice the cameras and the security system could be mistaken for a baby monitor, etc by an intruder.
The streaming over my cell phone was as if I were watching a movie starring my home, lol. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit for anyone that wants easy, quality home video surveillance and peace of mind but are too afraid to try it for yourself! The only thing I would change would be the length of the cords since outlets are not always where we would like them to be although you can always purchase a USB cord in the length you need.
This unit will more than pay for itself in a short amount of time and you won't have to pay a company to monitor your home although Home8 does offer extended services however I have not tried them. Overall, for someone wanting a security system that is not only affordable, flexible and simple to set up, then I would highly recommend this starter unit and then should you need more cameras later you can add them as you need without having to purchase the entire unit.
